One of the highlights of my experience here in Austin was the opportunity to attend a Beyoncé show. Actually, it took place in Houston, but if I hadn’t been in Austin, I’m sure I wouldn’t have had the chance to see Queen B. Despite the tiring adventure of going to Houston, watching the show, and coming back to Austin right after, I kicked off my journey in Texas in style – hehe.
Well, what made this experience so awesome? I’ll tell you:
-
Houston is Beyoncé’s hometown. So we expected the performance to be extra special. On top of that, it was her birthday week, and I believe we were still riding the Juneteenth vibe.
-
The NRG Stadium was massive. It had been a long time since I last attended a concert in the U.S., so that was quite impressive to me.
-
THE PEOPLE! Beyoncé usually attracts a very interesting crowd. Nevertheless, in Houston, this was taken to the next level. The audience was mostly Black. Actually, let me rephrase that: beautiful, authentic, bedazzled, energetic, elegant Black people. Observing the crowd was an experience on its own.
-
The production was flawless. The structure, logistics, merch, stage, dancers – everything was spot on. When it comes to Beyoncé, you can expect nothing less than excellence.
-
And, boy, she slayed. Again. The setlist catered to all types of Beyoncé fans. Her vocals were impeccable, as were the visuals, outfits, and giant screen (which made us feel like we were in an IMAX cinema). We didn’t pay cheap to be there, but it was worth every penny. Beyoncé is a fantastic artist, and she lives up to our expectations.

The icing on the cake? Her daughters’ participation in the show. Such a loving and powerful moment!
Coming back to Austin was… not so fun. It took me almost an hour just to leave the stadium. After that, getting an Uber seemed like an impossible task, but after another hour, I finally managed to get one to the airport. In the early hours of Monday, I caught a flight to Dallas and then another to Austin. Somehow, I made it to class at UTA just before our first activity of the day started.
It was crazy. It was exhausting. But it was fun. Magical. Certainly one of the most precious moments I’ve experienced during this trip. Thank you, universe!

That must've felt great, Maya! Congrats!
